At the recent Tales of the Cocktail event in New Orleans, Templeton Distillery introduced Templeton Rye Tequila Cask Finish to trade and spirits industry professionals.
Coming next month, the new expression will hit store shelves nationwide.
The whiskey makers at Templeton noted that the Tequila Cask Finish was originally matured in new American oak, flame-charred barrels for a minimum of six years. It then finished in Tequila Corralejo 99,000 horas Extra Anejo barrels for up to six months.
The Tequila Cask Finish is the fifth release in Templeton’s Cask Finish Series, and the limited edition will see 4,200 cases made in all.
The 92 proof finished rye is the result of the unique collaboration of Templeton Distillery and Tequila Corralejo, inspired by the shared experiences of tradition in each small town … Templeton, Iowa and Guanajuato, Mexico.
“This collaboration is a testament to our drive to push the boundaries of innovation with our cask finish series,” said Shane Fitzharris, with Infinium Spirits. “With these fantastic Tequila Corralejo barrels and a three to six month secondary maturation finish, we have created a special release that delivers great complexity and a flavor profile that spectacularly balances rye spice with agave sweetness.”
Templeton’s distillery opened in 2018, and to make their rye, they use a mash bill of 95% rye, 5% malted barley. All Templeton Rye products currently available for sale have been distilled and aged in Indiana, with maturation and bottling taking place at the Templeton Distillery. The brand has plans to release their own distillate from the Templeton distillery in the next two years.
