“Wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin’ to say to you …” Rock icon Rod Stewart’s whisky has launched in the U.S. starting this month.
The legendary singer is bringing something new to the market with his Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky, according to a press release from the brand.
The blended Scotch was designed to reflect Rod’s rock ‘n’ roll heritage with subtle nods to Americana. The statement from Wolfie’s notes that this new whisky was inspired by the legendary musician’s early “hell-raising days” with the band Faces.
The brand’s launch mirrored the start of Rod Stewart’s North American tour, which started Aug. 1st in Denver, Colorado.
Wolfie’s Whisky is distilled by a team of experts at a facility on the banks of Loch Lomond, and the Scotch clocks in at 40% ABV. It’s a blend of grain and malt whiskies. The distiller’s notes show the lightly peated blend to feature flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, and baked apple, along with flavors of sweet peat and pears in syrup. It finishes with candied citrus peels and a gentle oak spice.
“Wolfie’s has been a triumph across the UK and Europe, and following the path of my early career, our goal is to take Wolfie’s across the pond and introduce this fine tipple to my fans in the U.S.,” Stewart said, in the prepared statement. “Fine tuned, it’s perfect over ice or mixed into a favorite cocktail. I’m looking forward to taking Wolfie’s on tour across the states this summer.”
The whisky is made in small batches, distilled from malted barley and unmalted wheat. Each batch is made separately, and after fermentation, the malted barley wash is distilled twice in large copper stills. The wheat mash distillation takes place in continuous column stills, made of stainless steel with copper elements.
The coopers selected American oak bourbon casks to age the whisky, with each cask charred to release wood compounds which impart flavor and color to the maturing spirit.
For the packaging, written right on the label is a reference to the opening track from Rod’s 1991 album Vagabond Heart, the lyrics “Rhythm of My Heart.” His recording of the song was a nod to his own Scottish heritage, having adapted the melody from the traditional folk song, Loch Lomond.
Wolfie’s Whisky is available for a suggested price of $44.99, at www.wolfieswhisky.com, and comes with a pack of 10 Wolfie’s coasters.
Wolfie’s launched in June across the UK, Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.
Rod Stewart’s tour started in North America Aug. 1st at Ball Arena in Denver. The tour is scheduled for 18 shows across the U.S. and Canada.
